The VCP6 PowerPC embedded computer combines high computation performance with comprehensive I/O features and compact, robust construction to deliver a powerful, flexible and reliable platform for demanding embedded applications including vetronics, signal processing, imaging and control.
Varisys’ third generation core architecture supports single or dual MPC448 processors running at up to 1.7GHz, high speed DDR2 memory and PCI/X bus for maximum I/O throughput. Freescale’s MPC7448 combines a proven 32-bit superscalar core and double precision floating point unit with an enhanced AltiVec SIMD unit capable of 4 single precision floating point operations per cycle Performance is maximised by a 1MByte on-chip L2 cache running at full core speed, and a frontside bus running the highly efficient MPX protocol at 167MHz, while advanced power management features enable a compact and efficient system design.
The VCP6 has a wide range of on-board peripheral devices, including 10/100/1000 Ethernet, FireWire, USB 2.0 Hi Speed (2 ports), PAL/NTSC analog video capture (composite and S-Video), VGA, dual CAN bus, RS232 and discrete digital I/O. An IEEE P1386.1 PMC module site provides a modular I/O expansion capability, with support for PCI/X (100/66) and PCI (64/66 and 32/33) devices.
Both VxWorks and Linux target environments are supported. User applications may be burned into on-board flash memory or booted from external networks or mass storage.
